Revolution Day in Hungary

Yesterday was the anniversary of the student led revolt against the Russians in 1956. Although the country wasn’t rid of communism until democratic elections in 1989, this day, Oct 23, is a national holiday. There was a display set up near a mall (which was closed) with tanks and barbed wire and barricades reenacting the scene from decades ago. It looked real enough that we thought we would look in a war zone ourselves.
A fitting time to hold a Peace in Education Conference that we’ve just finished attending today, Sunday.
Last night we also visited the St. Stephen’s Basilica in downtown Budapest. Here is Tim just after the bells tolled.
