Ontario Weather: is it still Winter?
Ontario is bracing for weather that is wet and wintery this April Earth Day Weekend. While we get set for our first canoe outing of the season next week, a dose of Winter pours snow across Ontario.
I’ve just returned from a visit to Windsor late today. I was with family for a quick getaway before the busy summer season. I returned early rather than wait until Monday as southern Ontario’s roads look to be very challenging with quite a bit of snow forecast for tonight.
So the weather back here on the edge of Algonquin Park is rainy and windy, while the south gets ‘Snow!’ The wind and rain have broken up the ice and the water laps the shore once again after its 5 month absence. Official Ice Off: Afternoon April 23rd. A few small pockets of ice and ice piles on shorelines. All gone overnight. I’ll be watching the weather to get on the water as soon as I can. Spring showers and wind once again move the ice on its way.
For the record, that’s three days later than ice out the last two years.
On Wednesday, our first of several May groups comes to paddle with us.
Back to you soon with pictures and more from our first Algonquin Park Canoe trip of the year.
