Canada has more lakes than any other country — about 3 million.

The province of Ontario alone contains about a third of the world’s freshwater, spread over 250,000 lakes. You can read more about Canada’s lakes in Lakeland, a book by Casey Allen lays out the story in the first few pages.
No surprise that “heading up to the lake” is more than just a favorite national phrase.
It’s Canada’s version of lighting out of touch for a while — but with retreats furnished with Bear chairs, Kevlar canoes and loon calls over the quiet lake.
Recently, Ontario’s prime lake district, Algonquin Park and Muskoka, got the nod from National Geographic Traveler as the top summer destination — in the world.
