Exploring Algonquin Park in Comfort

Many of the hundreds of thousands of visitors to Algonquin Park each year are returnees.  Each year of the million-plus visitors who take in a visit to Algonquin, over 100,000 nights are spent on remote interior camp sites by visitors exploring the waterways in the backcountry on adventures far from the hustle and bustle of the city.

For many of us, the allure of Algonquin Park has it’s roots in a first visit to ‘The Park” that took place years or even decades earlier in their lifetime.  Our initial visits to Algonquin Park often took place as youth or teens.  Back then, the idea of setting out on a multi day canoe trip through Algonquin was an adventure without compromise.  For many, an Algonquin Park canoe trip is a rite of passage into self-sufficiency and adulthood.  Many school groups undertake such school adventure trips with teachers and chaperones leading youth in the ways of the wild.  Some youth, leave their family to join other youth in an Adventurous Expedition as part of Duke of Edinburgh certification.

These Algonquin Park adventures are designed for the Gentle Explorer.  Enjoyed most by older adults, these escapes from the city feature regional fare and locally sourced, carefully prepared meals (local craft beer from Highlander Brew Co. and wine from the family winery are nice perks too!), nature excursions by canoe, mountain bike, SUP board and hiking, and evening nature interpretation at our 120-year-old log cabin – Humble Hearth.  At the end of the day, instead of zipping up the bug screen on their tent, guests participating on these adventures slip under a feather duvet and drift off to dream time in the comfortable surroundings of a private cabin at Algonquin Park’s premier solar powered nature retreat – Northern Edge Algonquin.

If the idea of an Algonquin Park adventure has been calling you, but you don’t feel quite up to the challenges of sleeping on the ground and cooking over an open fire, consider an Explorer’s Cabin package.  These new experiences are opening the door to wildlife and nature exploration for just about anyone.

All Inclusive Explorer’s Cabin 3 and 4 day packages are offered most weekends throughout the summer (Thursday to Sunday or Friday to Monday).
