Canoe in Algonquin Park, as Tom Thomson once did . . .

The Canoe.

It’s a Canadian Icon. A symbol of exploration, adventure, nature connection. Canoeing Algonquin Park was the way Martha & Todd first found connection to this special place that became Northern Edge Algonquin.

Tom Thomson, famed painter who was a frequent visitor to our lake, Kawawaymog, and to Algonquin Park, used the canoe for his supply runs to South River; and for all his other trips around Algonquin Park.

July 8th is the 100th Anniversary of the death of Tom Thomson.  In honour of this very special anniversary, we have invited local artist Jill Boschulte to join us for some of this weekend and re-ignite the spark of the Tom Thomson Retreat – a historic experience that was offered as a retreat at the Edge many years ago.  Our guests will explore the fascinating history of Tom Thomson, who was the inspiration for the group of seven, and will have the opportunity to create their own works of art, in addition to paddling and exploring other activities included in our Up North: Algonquin Explorer package.

canadian canoe culture

Celebrate Tim’s special 100th Anniversary and Canada’s 150th anniversary of confederation by paddling with us in Algonquin Park this summer with Up North: Algonquin Explorer.

The canoe is the simple, iconic way we introduce our guests to Canadian culture. Check out the wonderful film, The Canoe, another way to explore this culture.  The film illustrates the stories of five paddling enthusiasts across Ontario.  See the full film below:
