This past year has taken office culture and turned it on its head. Adapting to change and preparing for the unknown has become the new normal for now, in both home life and at work. We’re here to help your team ground through change.

Casual lunchroom chats are generally no more, employees are feeling tired and uninspired by Zoom meetings (admit it) and work from home burnout has become a stark reality for many. The need to constantly be on your toes, adapt, adjust, and adapt again can be draining. Thankfully there can also be incredible innovation through transformation and the ability to adapt to new situations regardless of how challenging it might feel.

Now is the time to strip away any preconceptions and traditional ideas of business operation and return to your core purpose.

It’s time to learn how to become something new, resilient, innovative, responsive, and to get comfortable with the idea of grounding through change as a cohesive team.

But How?

The tips we are sharing here are inspired by some of the principles we follow in our Corporate Retreat programming which have, in the past, helped businesses hit their five-year goals in a matter of a year and come back looking for more of the unique offerings they experienced here at the Edge.

Remember How Far You’ve Come

We are often our own worst critics, in both our personal and professional lives. If you feel like you or your team need a bit of a morale boost, find a way to acknowledge the wins you have made along the way – particularly throughout this intense period of change. What has worked in recent months? Has anyone surprised you? Have you smashed any goals? Even small ones? Acknowledge it! Working from a place of celebration will help you and your team move mountains, we promise.

Be Honest About What Hasn’t Been Working

The flipside of the previous suggestion is also being honest (not critical) about what just simply hasn’t worked. The only way to grow in business is to try different things, but the reality is that not all of them are going to work. So, what have you and your teammates tried that just isn’t working? Why do you think it’s not working? Being open and honest about this aspect of your business and letting go of some less successful pieces of the puzzle leaves space for something else even better to replace them.

Get a Solid Grasp On The Current Picture

After reflecting on the positive growth and identifying what has not necessarily served you and your business – you’ll be ready to draw a true and honest picture of where you are right now. Where do your business and team currently stand amongst all of the change of the past year?

Decide What Ultimate Success Looks Like to You

Next, consider what success would ultimately look like to you, your team, and your business. If you haven’t had this conversation in a while – have some fun with it! Have everyone draw their own personal picture of success, and then one for the business and see how these goals align. Once you have that picture in mind you will better be able to decide what might be your next best steps.

Set SMART goals – SPECIFIC, MEASURABLE, ATTAINABLE, REALISTIC & TIMEBOUND

This may seem straightforward to many in a management position but it can so easily be overlooked when you get caught up in the day-to-day chaos of trying to get things done in this whacky world we are living in. Not only are these key pieces something you should keep in mind for the bigger picture of the business, but make it a regular practice to have each individual within your team set these goals on a regular basis.

Start with the big picture such as where you want to be in a year from now (or even five years from now) and then set smaller time-bound goals that will help you to get there. What do you need to do in six months to achieve those goals? How about in a month? Or a week? Keeping these goals in view should help everyone to pause, take a breath, and decide their own next step when things start to get overwhelming. This empowers your team through the change.
