Algonquin Park canoe trips with the Edge or other guide/outfitters, what’s the difference?
Our canoe trips are wildlife safaris starting at our nature retreat at Kawawaymog (Round) Lake, Algonquin Park Access Lake #1.
Enjoy an overnight stay at our award-winning eco-lodge at Algonquin Park and prepare for your journey prior to departing on a guided overnight canoe trip adventure. Guests arrive in the afternoon and spend the first night in the comfort of the nature retreat. Relax and unwind after your travel to our Algonquin Park home instead of heading right out camping into Algonquin Park.
You’ll spend arrival day enjoying beautiful lakefront gardens and sitting areas, possibly enjoying a wood-fired lakefront sauna or a refreshing swim. Oh, and your travel documents will be safe and sound in our private parking lot at the nature retreat. We’ll even mind your keys while you are enjoying your canoe trip.
You’ll meet guests and guides for pre-trip planning in our 125-year-old Explorer’s Cabin and enjoy a sumptous arrival night meal from chef Gregor, getting ready for your big Algonquin Park adventure.
Our team of Algonquin Park Guides are passionate about caring for guests on day-trip and overnight adventures. Everyone works in harmony to help prepare guests for the trip – packing, route planning, Algonquin Park history, moose/wolf wildlife discussions, and orientation to canoeing and equipment before canoeing in Algonquin Park directly from our sandy beach (departure point may vary with itinerary) on overnight camping trips in Ontario’s Algonquin Park.
Spend arrival night at Algonquin Park in a bright private cabin. Meeting and sharing with others is a vital part of our experiences, but your privacy is too.
Our handcrafted buildings are designed in harmony with the Algonquin Park forest. The Edge has multiple gathering spaces for socializing, yoga, meetings or just hanging out. Each building has lots of windows; open and airy, guests are surrounded by nature. We even have three campfire areas and a wood-fired pizza oven.
Intimate and Interactive, we maintain a guide to guest ration of 8:1 or less for Algonquin Park canoe trip adventures.
We provide delicious meals. Organic and locally raised (some from our own garden) food is personally planned for your trip by chef Gregor with your individual food needs looked after. You’ll treasure our home-made granola too! You won’t believe the food you’ll enjoy on your trip (If you are looking for hotdogs and beans, you’ve found the wrong experience provider).
An overnight canoe trip might not be right for everyone. These canoe trips are experiential and our guests learn how to participate in all canoe trip / camping activities alongside your guide. The option for a concurrent Explorer’s Cabin Package at the 125 Year old Explorer’s Cabin allows each guest to choose the level of Algonquin Park adventure that is right for them. Gentle Explorer to Adventurer, there is something for everyone at the Edge.
Upon return from overnight camping in Algonquin Park, guests have a chance to freshen up a bit. We provide bright, clean showers and full bathrooms with flush toilets – a welcome sight after a few days in Algonquin Park. Oh, and we usually have the sauna fired up for your return too!
The Edge was designed as an eco-friendly lodge at Algonquin Park. Family owned and locally operated, we live here year round, and employ folks who live here and deliver outstanding care. Not just an award winning facility and Algonquin Park experience provider, co-founder Todd Lucier has trained thousands of tourism business owners across Canada on how to create meaningful memorable travel experiences. Even the Canadian Tourism Commission tells our story to teach other adventure operators and experience providers how to do it right. We hope you’ll join us at our home, our park, Algonquin.
