Health, Safety, and COVID-19 Protections

Northern Edge Algonquin has taken great care to put policies, procedures and protocols into place which implement best practices to create the safest environment for both our guests and staff while we continue to offer enjoyable, relaxing, adventurous and life-changing nature experiences.

We invite our guests to explore the possibility of new, different layers of connection in these times. Perhaps as the space around us expands, so does our capacity to go deeper into ourselves, embodying loving and protective boundaries for ourselves and others.

Safety has always been our number one priority, and in the wake of Covid-19, it is more important than ever. Our new procedures and protocols (UPDATED APRIL 13, 2022) support our COVID-19 policy, which states: Northern Edge Algonquin, its employees, and guests shall act in accordance with and implement all precautions, as per the guidance of the Government of Ontario and Public Health Ontario, creating a safe and healthy operating environment while stopping the spread of COVID-19.

Here’s what you can expect upon booking an experience at the Edge:

Group Sizes and Interactions

By their nature, retreats at the Edge are intimate, small-group experiences.  Guests coming to the Edge acknowledge that even with precautions there is the possibility of repeated close contact with a cohort of 10 – 24 other guests.  Unlike a restaurant or traditional hotel/resort, you’ll only cross paths with our team and other members of your group.

We encourage all of our guests to be conscious of one another’s personal space. We are slowly re-emerging and everyone has different levels of comfort with personal interactions.

Vaccination & Testing:

We highly encourage receiving your COVID-19 vaccination and applicable booster shots as our best collective protection against COVID-19.  We greatly appreciate that vaccination rates have contributed to our ability to reopen and gather again in safety.

We continue to monitor provincial mandates and act as advised by public health authorities.  At this time we do not require proof that our guests have received a COVID-19 vaccination. We respect the right of guest facilitators hosting their retreats with us to require this of their clients if they choose.

We also encourage all of our guests to consider taking a voluntary Rapid Antigen test prior to their arrival at the Edge.

Updates to our flexible refund policy:

In the event that your cancellation is due to a government-mandated closure or a positive test for COVID-19 within your immediate household, we will be happy to provide a full refund.  This allows us to safely move forward with retreat experiences, keeping both our own and your minds at ease that everyone on site will be happy and healthy.

For all other cancellations, Northern Edge Algonquin continues to follow our Deposit Protection & Lifetime Credit Policy.

Updated pre-screening process:

In lieu of our Covid 19 pre-screening form, we now ask our guests to responsibly use their preferred self-screening method within 24 hours prior to arrival at the Edge.  If you have experienced any flu-like symptoms, have traveled outside of the country or been in contact with someone known to have COVID-19, or have any other reason to suspect a case of COVID-19, please use a Rapid Antigen test and touch base with guest relations right away.

Face coverings and masks

Face coverings and masks have been an invaluable tool in protecting ourselves and others throughout this ongoing pandemic.  We welcome our guests and team to decide for themselves whether or not to wear a mask in indoor spaces at the Edge.  Please do what makes you feel safe and comfortable.

Preventing the Spread

We continue to encourage the following among both guests and team:

  • Respecting each others’ physical space and boundaries
  • Frequent hand washing and use of our sanitization stations throughout the property
  • Dining outdoors when weather and temperatures are agreeable – and tables in our indoor indoor dining spaces will remain spaced apart.
  • While our team will continue to wash and sanitize guest dishes, we are pleased to welcome guests to once again engage in this process by clearing & pre-rinsing their dish.
  • Guests are once again welcome to select their preference of shared or private accommodations.

Enhanced cleaning and sanitation protocols

Northern Edge Algonquin’s thoroughly enhanced cleaning and sanitation procedures include but are not limited to….

  • Frequently cleaning and disinfecting common areas and high-touch surfaces with approved cleaners and disinfectants.
  • Sanitation stations with disinfectant wipes in common areas
  • Using approved disinfectants with Drug Identification Number (DIN) on Health Canada’s Disinfectants for Use Against SARS-CoV-2 (COVID-19) list.
  • Accommodations and communal areas such as Points North are left to air out for 24 hours after guest departure prior to cleaning.
  • Cleaning surfaces with soap and water in addition to disinfecting.
  • Washing hands between cleaning/disinfecting rooms for 20 seconds minimum.
  • Providing hand sanitizer at entrances/exits and at the top and bottom of handrails.
  • If items must be shared, cleaning with alcohol or disinfectant wipes between users.

An Emergency Response Plan

Facilitators and staff will remain vigilant throughout your experience, monitoring both themselves and fellow retreat participants for any COVID-19 symptoms. Appropriate action will be taken as per our procedures in the event of a suspected case, and Rapid Antigen tests are available on-site.  Suspected cases of COVID-19 may result in an early end to the retreat.
